Newport County welcome Cheltenham Town to Rodney Parade his weekend as they go head to head in League Two.
Tom Pearce, Exiles Picks Predictor (@tompearce97)
This will be the 17th meeting between the two sides, with the first coming in 2013, in a game that finished 0-0.
The Exiles have failed to get one over Cheltenham in their last three meetings, drawing twice and losing once.
That includes the reverse fixture which ended as a 1-1 draw, but how will tomorrow’s game play out?
Newport County Form
The Exiles cruised past Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night, shipping four past them to continue their play-off push.
They have also won just two of their last six games, picking up nine points from a possible 18. They now find themselves in ninth place in the form table.
Newport have won their last two games at Rodney Parade as well, with the Scunthorpe following the win against Crawley Town.
Cheltenham Town Form
Cheltenham were officially promoted last time out, as they drew 1-1 at home to Carlisle United on Tuesday night.
They have won three of their last six matches, accumulating nine points from 18. That means they currently sit in fourth place.
They beat Stevenage last time out on the road, but that was their first win from four away games.
Our Picks For Exiles Picks – Newport County v Cheltenham Town
1. Will Newport County beat Cheltenham? No
This will certainly be an interesting match-up, as both teams have things to play for.
Whilst Newport will want to stay in the play-off places, Cheltenham could potentially clinch the league title.
Due to the fact that Cheltenham have something to play for, it will be a very tough game for The Exiles.
2. Will Lewis Collins score? No
Collins scored the third goal of the game scoring his first goal of the season.
It’s not too surprising that he hadn’t scored this campaign, as the teenager has managed just 653 minutes on the pitch.
This will actually be the fourth time he will have come up against Cheltenham, but he has never scored against them before.
3. Will Newport County score in the first half? No
The Exiles found the net on three occasions in the opening 45 minutes on Tuesday night.
However, it did come as a surprise as they have only scored in the third half in 32% of their home games this campaign.
Meanwhile, Cheltenham have conceded just seven from 22, which is an average of 0.32 goals against per away game.
4. How many shots on target will Newport County have? 4+
The Exiles had 16 shots against Scunthorpe on Tuesday, scoring with all four that hit the target.
They have now tested opposition goalkeepers 173 times this season, averaging 3.93 shots on goal per game.
Joshua Griffiths has been the usual go-to man between the sticks for Cheltenham, playing all but two of their league games.
So far this campaign, he has faced 111 attempts on his goal, which is an average of 2.64 shots on target against per 90.
5. Will Josh Sheehan assist a goal? No
The midfielder assisted one of the four goals on Tuesday, registering his third assist of the season.
It had been a while since he last set up a teammate for a goal as well, having gone 11 games without doing so.
Sheehan has a decent record against Cheltenham, though, registering two assist in four games against them.
6. How many corners will Newport County be awarded? 4+
Michael Flynn’s side won five corners last time out, meaning they have now won 231 of them this campaign. That’s an average of 5.25 awarded per game.
From the 44 games they have played in the league, they have won four or more corners in 30 of them.
However, in the reverse fixture, The Exiles managed just the three corners.
- How many tackles will Mickey Demetriou make? 1
- How many saves will Newport County goalkeepers make? 4+
