Michael Flynn’s side dropped out of the play-off spots on Tuesday night after they were beaten 1-0 by Tranmere.
Meanwhile, tomorrow’s hosts came from a goal down to beat Carlisle 2-1 at home in the week.
This will be the 55th meeting between the two sides, the first coming in 1950 in which Newport come out 2-0 winners.
It’s not a game the Exiles have done greatly in throughout the years, losing 10 more games than they’ve won against Colchester.
One of those wins came in the reverse fixture earlier on in the season, the Exiles winning the match 2-1.
How will tomorrow’s game play out?
We take a look…
1. Will Newport County score in the first half? Yes
Newport have struggled to find the net recently, failing to score in the first 45 minutes in any of their last seven games.
That could change tomorrow as they do tend to score before the half time whistle when on the road, scoring in the first half in 62% of their away games.
Colchester have kept a clean sheet in the first period in just 40% of their games on home soil this season.
2. Will Newport County score in the second half? No
The Exiles have struggled to find the net in the second 45 minutes when on the road, doing so in just 38% of their away matches.
Meanwhile, the hosts have conceded fewer goals in the second period compared to the first when playing at home, albeit by one.
With eight goals let in from 15, they are currently averaging 0.53 goals against per home game.
3. How many goals will Newport County score? 1
As previously stated, Newport have found goals hard to come by in recent times, scoring just four goals in their last eight games.
It wouldn’t be unusual for Flynn’s side to score exactly one goal when playing away. In fact, they have done that in 63% of their games on the road.
Despite their low position in the league, Colchester’s defensive record isn’t as bad as you’d expect.
With 17 goals conceded from 15 home games, they are averaging 1.13 goals against per game at the JobServe Community Stadium.
4. How many shots on target will Newport County have? 3
The Exiles managed to test the Tranmere goalkeeper on just two occasions on Tuesday night.
That means they have now had 123 shots on goal, averaging 3.97 shots on target per game.
Dean Gerken and Shamal George are the two men who have played between the sticks for Colchester this year.
They’ve faced 137 shots on their goal so far this campaign, which means they’re averaging 4.41 shots on target against per game.
5. How many corners will Newport County be awarded? 4+
It was just the two corners for Newport on Tuesday night but they are currently averaging 5.32 corners per game.
Colchester have actually conceded four or more corners in 28 of their 31 games this season.
They’ve now given 198 of them away this campaign, averaging 6.38 corners against per game.
6. How many saves will Newport County goalkeepers make? 2
Nick Townsend was tested on three occasions on Tuesday and made two saves.
Between him and Tom King, they have made 77 saves this season, averaging 2.48 saves per game.
Colchester don’t tend to hit the target too frequently, taking 101 shots on goal this campaign.
That’s an average of 3.26 shots on target per game.
- Will Nicky Maynard score? No
- Will Luke Gambin assist a goal? No
- How many tackles will Mickey Demetriou make? 1
- How many shots on target will Nicky Maynard have? 1
